The Cross Bench by Richard Hutten
Richard Hutten
The Cross Bench, 1994
The bench was made for a fair in Italy together with the swastika-shaped bench ‘s(h)it on it’ to comment on the political situation in the country. The deliberate choice of materials and form highlights the contrast between beauty and discomfort. By placing the two furniture pieces together, Hutten seeks to provoke thought and discussion about the impact of political ideologies on everyday life.
The Cross Bank is part of the Centraal Museum Utrecht collection. Recently on show at theĀ Droog Archives exhibition, September 2 until October 27, 2024.
