Slow Glow Lamp by NEXT Architects & Aura Luz Melis

Slow Glow Lamp, 2004

the Slow Glow Lamp offers a unique take on lighting. Instead of using a traditional evacuated bulb or halogen, this lamp is filled with an organic material — vegetable fat. The bulb’s heat gradually melts the fat substance and reveals an intriguing process: the light glows brighter and brighter, and the lamp becomes warmer and warmer. Nice and slow.

The Slow Glow Lamp is a part of the Centraal Museum Utrecht collection.
