Spacer Chair, 2007
The Spacer Chair is crafted from a soft, open mesh fabric that transforms into a spacious and functional chair through an intricate process of folding and hardening. Drawing inspiration from traditional carpet production techniques, Studio Samira Boon designed the chair by interweaving two pieces of fabric. The folding process turns this material into a striking three-dimensional object, while the chair’s strength comes from its double-layered fabric and its dynamic curves. The chair gains structural integrity by hardening the 3D fabric with resin, creating a perfect blend of form and function.
This Dry Tech 3 project was developed in collaboration with the TU Delft Aerospace faculty and Next Architects.
