Rag Chair by Tejo Remy
Tejo Remy
Rag Chair, 1991
Tejo Remy presented the Rag Chair as part of his graduation project at the University of Arts, Utrecht, in 1991. This innovative piece is crafted from layers of second-hand clothes, held together by metal pull straps that create a unique and functional form. Remy views the chair not simply as a collection of discarded fabrics, but as a tapestry of memories, reflecting the stories and lives of the materials used.
The Rag Chair challenges traditional notions of furniture as well as highlights the importance of resourcefulness in contemporary design, making it a significant contribution to the dialogue around sustainability and consumerism.
Rag Chair is part of theĀ Philadelphia Museum of Art collection.
