‘Set Up Shades’ Lamp by Marcel Wanders
Marcel Wanders
‘Set Up Shades’ Lamp, 1989
The concept behind this design is strikingly simple — a lamp made from multiple lampshades stacked on top of each other. While the object appears familiar due to its traditional conical shape, which consumers recognize, Wanders employs minimalist forms to create not just a lamp, but a broader concept.
‘Marcel Wanders took the shade of a real standard lamp and placed five on top of one another. Through the liberal application of sober elements one creates a new richness,’ — Renny Ramakers.
‘Set Up Shades’ Lamp has been included in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London and Centraal Museum, Utrecht.
